TDMHSAS encourages people across the state to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. More than 100 Take Back Day events are planned with most occurring this Saturday (October 26) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time.

Tennessee’s Opioid Abatement Council released its second Announcement of Funding for Community Grants. This offering will add $20 million dollars for approved opioid remediation activities to the tens of millions of dollars that are already flowing to provide services across the state.

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Department of Health join with people across the state to recognize August 31st as Overdose Awareness Day. Events including candlelight vigils, trainings, and stigma-busting activities are planned across Tennessee.

The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services are teaming up to raise awareness of underage drinking as students return to class for the new school year.

TDMHSAS is excited to announce the community mental health centers that are receiving grant contracts to open two new Crisis Stabilization Units and Walk-In Centers for Children. TDMHSAS will work with Mental Health Cooperative in Nashville and Alliance Healthcare Services in Memphis to open these new options for families with children in crisis.

TDMHSAS, state and local government partners, dozens of substance use prevention coalitions, and law enforcement agencies are teaming up for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, April 27.

Tennessee’s Opioid Abatement Council is releasing its first ever community grants totaling $80,936,057. Programs funded through the grants will support work in response to opioid addiction throughout Tennessee for up to three years.

The Tennessee Behavioral Health Pathways Scholarship is designed to support the next generation of professionals working in mental health and substance use treatment careers as they earn the advanced degrees necessary to begin their journey.

Governor Bill Lee has proclaimed March 10, 2024 as Tennessee’s Day of Hope. The annual commemoration comes as recent reports highlight Tennessee’s improving rankings in prevalence of behavioral health challenges and access to services.

TDMHSAS is excited to announce the appointment of James Harper as Director of Faith-Based Initiatives. The new role is a promotion for Harper who has served as Assistant Director for almost two years.

TDMHSAS is excited to announce the appointment of Beth Goodner as its first-ever Assistant Commissioner for Children and Youth Mental Health Services. Goodner will lead a new division within TDMHSAS encompassing the department’s growing portfolio of mental health prevention, early intervention, treatment, and wellness programs for Tennesseans from birth to young adulthood.

Tennessee’s Opioid Abatement Council is opening its community grant application portal to receive proposals for its first round of funding. The portal will be open for groups to submit proposals through October 9, 2023.

On this International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31, Tennessee pauses to remember the neighbors we have lost to overdose deaths, lift up the families touched by tragedy, and celebrate the brave men and women who have survived overdose and are living examples of recovery.
