How many interns can does the Tennessee Department of Correction accept?
There's no set number. As the largest state agency, we would like to have between 12-15 interns per semester.
Are TDOC’s internships paid?
TDOC internships are unpaid.
Does the Department of Correction only accept Criminal Justice majors?
No. The Tennessee Department of Correction accepts interns in various fields of study. With more than 6,500 state employees, you can find nearly every field within TDOC. We have professionals in the field of education, communications, public relations, business, accounting, criminal justice and nursing to name a few.
Accepted interns will have the opportunity to select the region (east, west or middle) along with what area they are interested in learning more about. We offer internships in one of our prisons, community supervision offices or in central office. Please indicate the area that you would like to intern on the official application.
Do I have to live in Nashville to apply?
While the internships are throughout the state, all selected interns will have to attend orientation with the Department of Human Resources in Nashville. They will not be holding those regionally.
