2017 School Accountability

Reward Schools are the top 5 percent of schools for performance and the top 5 percent of schools for progress. Schools can also be identified on both pathways.

Schools are designated as Reward—Performance for overall student achievement. This designation is determined annually by a one-year success rate.

Schools are designated as Reward—Progress for having high student growth. This designation is determined by a one-year TVAAS school composite.

A school cannot be designated as Reward if:

• The school is identified as a Priority or Focus school.
• The gap between any of the gap groups listed below is in the top 25 percent of all gaps for a given gap group.
  • Black/Hispanic/Native American vs. All Students
  • Economically Disadvantaged vs. Non-Economically Disadvantaged
  • English Learners vs. Non-English Learners
  • Students with Disabilities vs. Non-Students with Disabilities

The list was approved by the State Board of Education on Oct. 20, 2017.

Reward School Highlights

• 169 total Reward schools in 60 districts
• 59 Reward—Performance only
• 85 Reward—Progress only
• 25 Reward—Performance and Progress

The next Priority school list will be named in 2018. While Priority school lists are designated about every three years, schools have the opportunity to earn their way off the Priority list every year. The schools below demonstrated significant progress in the 2016-17 school year, such that they exceeded the 15th percentile of one-year success rates when ranked against other eligible schools in the state. These schools have exited the Priority School list and are no longer considered Priority Schools. 

Priority Improving schools remain on the Priority list and receive recognition for making improvement. In 2017, schools that exceed the 10th percentile but do not exceed the 15th percentile will earn Priority Improving status.

The schools below have demonstrated significant progress in the area or areas for which they were identified as Focus Schools and have earned their way off the Focus school list. These schools are no longer considered Focus Schools.

Focus schools that do not meet the exit criteria are eligible to be named Focus Improving if their performance improves but does not reach the threshold required for Focus Exit status. Schools that are named Focus Improving remain on the Focus list and receive recognition for making improvement. The pathways to achieve Focus Improving status are through improving graduation rate, success rate, and subgroup gaps.
